Ross completes his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Residential Section
The YST Activities Team is an Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) in Gloucestershire.
As well as providing activities, we also support young people to secure placements with other community organisations to help them to achieve the different sections of their awards.
This October we reached out to the Wiggly Worm charity, who provide volunteering opportunities, to see if they could offer Ross an opportunity to complete his Gold DofE Residential Section. They offered Ross a place on their ‘From Pantry to Plate’, 4-day course.
The course is an inclusive course for individuals between 16-25 years, with or without a disability, to work as part of a team to cook a variety of dishes; aiming to teach individuals cooking skills and food knowledge, to boost their independence and confidence inside and outside the kitchen.
Jo Clarke, Youth Support Worker with our Activities Team said,
This was a great opportunity for Ross to complete his award and a celebration of our partnership working across Gloucestershire”.
Abby Scuse-Denley, Project Coordinator and Head of Delivery at Wiggly Worm said,
Ross got involved in all parts of the course, worked well with other participants and staff. He was very focused when engaged with a task and learned a lot over the week. It was a pleasure to have him on the course”.

Ross completed the course with Wiggly Worm staff, volunteers, and other participants at Pates Grammar School in Cheltenham during October half term (2021). He thoroughly enjoyed his time there and, according to his mum,
Ross' favourite part has been the residentials and expeditions. The Youth Support Team have made it so enjoyable and accessible to Ross. We would like to thank them for all the outstanding work they do and for believing in our son”.
This completes Ross’ Gold DofE and we wish him every success in the future.
Thanks to the Wiggly Worm for the photos.
