One Trust Award for long time volunteer with YST
On Monday 11 April, Shaw Trust's, Employee Voice, hosted the eighth One Trust Award event.
The Awards celebrate colleagues and volunteers who deliver more, strive to help us achieve our purpose, and demonstrate our values. The event was hosted virtually, and was attended by managers, nominators and colleagues, as well as members of the Senior Leadership Team within Shaw Trust, of which YST is a part.
The Volunteer Award was awarded to Serena Smith, a Referral Order Panel community volunteer, who's been with the scheme for 20 years.
Serena was nominated by Ruth French, YST Volunteer Coordinator, who wrote the following:
"Serena is a youth offender panel member of the Youth Support Team.
The panels are a ground-breaking way of dealing with first-time young offenders, and provide an opportunity for young people to speak for themselves and take responsibility for their actions.
Panel members help reduce crime in their area to make their communities safer.
The panel will meet with the young person and their parents or guardians to talk about the reasons for the offending behavior and agree a tailor-made contract aimed at putting things right. She said,
Serena has volunteered for 20 years. Her long standing commitment to the project and ongoing support to the young people within Gloucestershire deserves a One Trust Award."
Serena said,
I'm overwhelmed to win the award - it's made my day. If I've helped just one young person get back on track then it's all been worthwhile."
After Serena was announced as the Volunteer Award winner, Chris Luck, Shaw Trust CEO, said
20 years of service is extraordinary... we are all hugely grateful and appreciative of her dedication."
