Young people are inspired by visit to Cheltenham Town FC

A member of staff from YST and two young people who attend the National Star College traineeship at Whaddon Youth Centre visited Cheltenham Town Football Club and met with their commercial manager, John Finnegan, recently.

John talked about  his educational experiences at school, he said:

I wasn't bothered about achieving GCSEs because I was so focused on playing football but as I got older I recognised the importance of achieving qualifications and returned to education."

John played for a number of teams including Nottingham Forest. He came to Cheltenham Town as a player in 2002 before becoming the team captain.  When he stopped playing football he took on the role of commercial manager.

John gave the group a tour of the ground and talked about the building and the activities that take place during the week.  The young people had an opportunity to look at trophies and were presented with football programmes and a Cheltenham town notebook. They were also offered tickets for a league game of their choice.

The young people asked lots of questions and both said they had really enjoyed the visit and are looking forward to attending a match in the near future.

If you are able to offer young people an inspiring tour of your workplace or a meeting with professionals, then we'd love to hear from you. Contact info.glos@prospects.co.uk
