Stand to be a Member of Youth Parliament Gloucestershire By Elections 2020

Young people in Gloucestershire aged 11-18 have an opportunity to become the next Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for Gloucester/Forest and Stroud/Cotswolds this October.

UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) is run by young people for young people. Every 11 – 18 year old, who lives or goes to school in Gloucestershire can put themselves forward for election to represent other young people in their constituency.

MYPs usually stand for two years or until their 19th birthday if this comes first. Due to Covid-19 current MYPs were given the opportunity to extend their term until February 2022. Jamie Burrell, MYP for Cheltenham/Tewkesbury has chosen to extend his term. Hanna Doherty, MYP for Stroud/Cotswolds and Dominic Thomas, MYP for Gloucester/Forest are standing down to take up university places – leaving their two seats up for grabs in a by-election.

MYPs get to meet MPs, run local and national campaigns as well as having the opportunity to debate within the House of Commons on a range of issues that affect young people in Britain.

Dominic said,

I've met lots of interesting people and been able to work with them to achieve some great things, such as the recent founding of the Gloucestershire NHS Youth Forum and the Make your Mark ballot. The role will be an amazing experience for you if you want to make your voice heard on issues both locally and nationally."
