Look Good Feel Good clothing event

The weather wasn't great but it didn't stop several young people from attending our Look Good Feel Good pre loved clothing event at the end of May.

Covid-19 has had a negative impact on young people in many ways, not least, their ability to look for work and to develop skills and confidence needed for interviews.

The event, that took place at Whaddon Youth Support Centre was aimed at any young people aged 16-25 who need clothes for work or for an upcoming interview. Not only were the clothes FREE, we also had a stylist on hand offering tips and a hairdresser offering dry cuts for only £2.

Weeks before the event our Operations Director, Kat Aukett, had put out a call to all staff asking us to donate any 'smart' clothes for an event aimed at supporting young people into work.

I was very grateful to the Youth Support Team staff who donated some lovely clothes from themselves and family members. A number of the items still had the labels on, I suspect that a few of us may have a shopping problem!

Just some of the items on offer during the event

We know that finding suitable clothes for an interview can be difficult and costly, whilst looking good when you walk into an interview room, or your first day of a new job, can make all the difference to your confidence. Those that attended were able to take some lovely items that would help with attending interviews and go to work while they waited for that first pay check.

One person had been successful in gaining a role but had had to wait four weeks before receiving a salary, during that time they had to have black trousers and white shirts for every day of the week and unfortunately they were unable to buy them until pay day. They were very grateful for the items they picked, which eased the pressure.

Kat, who hosted the event said,

This last 15 months have been challenging, particularly for young people in the labour market, I am proud that we have been able to help in a small way.”

We hoped that this event would help bring some practical support and much needed help after a very difficult year. We were pleased that we were able to do our bit for the environment too by offering pre loved but quality garments.
